The New Living Translation Exposed

By Dr. Ken Matto

Many Christians have purchased the New Living Translation believing that it is very easy to understand but the problem is, like all the modern versions it is taken from the critical text which is the counterfeit text that Hort and Westcott used to create their Revised Version of 1881.  It was not a revised version of the King James rather they replaced the proper text with their Roman Catholic based text made from the Vaticanus manuscript which has no history before 1475 and contains massive corruptions.  Then they used the Sinaiticus which has been proven to be a nineteenth century counterfeit with sufficient evidence to back that claim.

The New Living Translation (NLT) is published by Tyndale House publishers as another false Bible to attempt to displace the King James Bible.  Why would “Christian” publishers publish something that could hurt Christians instead of helping them?  It is all $$$$$$ and that is the reason for these rewrites.  It is a shame that Christians refuse to think and investigate these versions instead they run right out and buy them placing millions of dollars into the coffers of the publishers who could not care about their spiritual growth, only their wallet.  These big sales only fund the production of future counterfeit versions, all more corrupt than their predecessors.  It is a sad thing that Christians are willing to fund the weakening of Christianity.  Probably the biggest endorser is Chuck Swindoll who has used it in his commentaries and on his radio program.  He doesn’t push it but the marketing strategy is there, because of his fame on the radio all he has to do is use it and the good sheep who listen to him will run right out and buy one.  I wonder what type or remuneration Chuck gets from Tyndale House Publishers because media ministers don’t do anything for free.

Below are 52 verses from the New Living Translation which will show its complete agreement with the New World Translation of the Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Roman Catholic New American Bible.  There are literally hundreds of verses which have been mutilated in the NLT.  If you would like to check them out and see them for yourself go to:

www.scionofzion.com/kjcomparisons.html

On this page you will have each verse (767 total) more intently researched for you showing the corruptions which agree with the other counterfeit versions like NIV, NASV, ESV, etc.  For this brief comparison article, I will only be comparing 3 versions and you will see how the NLT agrees 100% with the New World Translation of the Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Roman Catholic New American Bible and how it differs from the real standard which is the King James Bible which has stood the test of time for over 400 years.

Genesis 12:18-19

(KJV) And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife? {19} Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.

(NLT) {18} So Pharaoh summoned Abram and accused him sharply. “What have you done to me?” he demanded. “Why didn’t you tell me she was your wife?

{19} Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ and allow me to take her as my wife? Now then, here is your wife. Take her and get out of here!”

(NAB) Then Pharaoh summoned Abram and said to him: “How could you do this to me! Why did you not tell me she was your wife? {19} Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her for my wife? Now, here is your wife. Take her and leave!”

(NWT) Even the Jehovah’s Witness go this one right!

This is one of the more subtle, yet major abominations in the modern versions. In the KJB we read the single word in verse 19, “might.” This means that Pharaoh did not yet take Sarah to be one of his wives. The modern versions omit the word “might” and teach that Pharaoh took Sarah to be his wife which would make Sarah an adulteress. This would also mean that the plagues which God sent on the house of Pharaoh would have been fruitless (verse 17). The reason that God sent those plagues was to prevent Pharaoh from taking her as his wife. According to the KJB, Pharaoh did not take Sarah as wife and returned her to Abraham who was rebuked by Pharaoh for lying about Sarah. When one little qualifying word is omitted, it changes the entire meaning of the passage which also affects the teachings of other passages and the continuity of the flow of Scripture. All the modern versions above use the word “took” which means that the action of taking Sarah as wife had already been completed, as the word “took“ is the past tense of the word “take.”

Matthew 1:25

(KJB) And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

(NLT) But if any place refuses to welcome you or listen to you, shake its dust from your feet as you leave to show that you have abandoned those people to their fate.”

Romans 11:6
(KJB) And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

(NLT) And since it is through God’s kindness, then it is not by their good works. For in that case, God’s grace would not be what it really is—free and undeserved.
(NAB) But if the choice is by grace, it is not because of their works-otherwise grace would not be grace
(NWT) Now if it is by undeserved kindness, it is no longer due to works; otherwise, the undeserved kindness no longer proves to be undeserved kindness.

(NLT) But if someone claims to be a prophet and does not acknowledge the truth about Jesus, that person is not from God. Such a person has the spirit of the Antichrist, which you heard is coming into the world and indeed is already here.

(NAB) while every spirit that fails to acknowledge him does not belong to God. Such is the spirit of the antichrist which, as you have heard, is to come; in fact, it is in the world already.

Revelation 8:13
(KJB) And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!

(NLT) Then I looked, and I heard a single eagle crying loudly as it flew through the air, “Terror, terror, terror to all who belong to this world because of what will happen when the last three angels blow their trumpets.”
(NAB) As my vision continued, I heard an eagle flying in midlevel cry out in a loud voice, “Woe, woe, and again woe to the inhabitants of earth from the trumpet blasts the other three angels are about to blow!”
(NWT) And I saw, and I heard an eagle flying in midheaven say with a loud voice: “Woe, woe, woe to those dwelling on the earth because of the rest of the trumpet blasts of the three angels who are about to blow their trumpets!”

Revelation 21:24
(KJB) And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.

(NLT) The nations will walk in its light, and the kings of the world will enter the city in all their glory.

(NAB) The four living creatures answered, "Amen," and the elders fell down and worshiped.
(NWT) And the nations will walk by means of its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it.

As we have plainly seen, the New Living Translation is as corrupt as the Jehovah’s Witness Bible and the Roman Catholic Bible or let’s put it another way, it is as accurate as both of those.  The New Living Translation is another satanic counterfeit and Christians will never come to any true understanding in Scripture by using this counterfeit nor will they grow in their spiritual walk.
