Masoretic Text

Psalm 145:13 (TR)   מַלְכוּתְךָ מַלְכוּת כָּל־עֹלָמִים וּמֶמְשֶׁלְתְּךָ בְּכָל־דּוֹר וָדוֹר׃

Affected Teaching

Here is a serious case of the modern versions adding to the Word of God.  The words “the Lord is faithful in all his words, and holy in all his works” is not found in the Masoretic Text but is found in the Septuagint (2nd/3rd century A.D.), Jerome’s Latin Vulgate (5th century), Syriac (early 2nd century), Arabic (before 6th century), and Ethiopic (4th/5th century) versions.  It looks like they took this sentence from Psalm 145:17. Psalm 145:17 (KJV) The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.

(Septuagint) Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endures through all generations. The Lord is faithful in his words, and holy in all his works.

It is believed that the Septuagint was written by Origen in the 2nd or 3rd centuries.  The modern version editors have picked and chosen what they wanted to include from very suspicious and spurious sources instead of staying with the Masoretic Text which settles the question once and for all.  Now let us look at how much confusion this one verse with additional words causes.

The following modern versions do not have the ending: ASV, AMP, LEB, NASV, NET, NKJV, NLV, NWT, TLV.

The following modern versions have the ending: CSB, CEB, CEV, ERV, HCSB, ISV, MESSAGE, NABRE, NCV, NIRC, NIV, NLT, NRSV, RSV, WEB.

The following modern versions have the ending but are in brackets: ESV, VOICE

Picture this scenario: You are in a Bible study group at home or church and you come to Psalm 145:13 and there are ten people in your group, 3 have the ESV, 3 have the NASV, and 4 have the NIV.  3 of them will have the ending omitted, 3 will have the ending in brackets, and 4 will have the ending without any notations.  How much confusion do you think this situation will cause?  It will cause very much confusion because you have three separate groups with three different endings and you never get passed, “what does your version say?"   The modern versions cannot be trusted because they produce nothing but confusion and false teachings.
