Affected Teaching

The word we must look at is “haploteti” which is underlined in both verses
above. It does carry with it
the idea of being “liberal or generous” when used in its proper context.
However in Romans 12:8, the word is translated properly by the King
James translators as “simplicity” which carries with it the meaning of
“singleness or sincere without self-seeking.”
In other words, the giving is done with a single mindset, that is, to
further the Kingdom of God without the giver looking for some type of
payback in favors or anything.
In today’s terms we would call it “pay for play.”
This is why the word “simplicity” is used because it speaks of a
person giving without making any demands on the one who is being given the
money. Millions of dollars are
given to political campaigns with the giver expecting favors in return.
Millions of Christians all around the world give to further the
Kingdom of God without any expectation of a favor from the one or the
ministry receiving the donation.
