Affected Teaching
The modern versions changed “marveled” to “afraid or awe.” When the people saw Jesus heal the man with the palsy, there was astonishment or marveling. Marveling is a wonder with admiration which causes a person to arrest their attention and causes a person to stare. There would have been more joy than there would have been fear or awe, which is reverence mixed with fear.
