Judges 6:6-10

Judges 6:6

And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD.

This invasion of the Midianites had brought the Israelites to a point of total poverty since they were now unable to utilize the land because it was now being used by the Midianites for their needs.  So once again the children of Israel had cried unto the Lord seeking deliverance from the situation they were in.  You would think at times like this they would use it as a lesson to remain obedient to the Lord and to teach their children.

Judges 6:7

And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD because of the Midianites,

God heard the cries of His children just as He heard them before and when they were in bondage in the land of Egypt.  God was ready to deliver them from their oppression.

Judges 6:8

That the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage;

The Lord now sent a prophet to the children of Israel.  This prophet was a man but we do not know who he was.  He was sent by the Lord and was reminding them that it was the Lord who brought them out of the land of Egypt from bondage to Pharaoh.  He wanted to reassure them that the Midianites were nowhere near the power that Egypt was and that He toppled a great world power like Egypt.  This is why Egypt was brought up for their reassurance and hope.

Judges 6:9

And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drave them out from before you, and gave you their land;

God was now reassuring them by telling them through the prophet what He did for them.  He delivered them out of the land of Egypt and when they were seeking to go to the Promised Land, the Amalekites had come out against them but Moses had told Joshua to pick out some men and to fight against Amalek.  As long as Moses held up his hands Joshua prevailed and eventually the Amalekites lost the battle.  Then when the Israelites came into the land, God had driven out many of the pagan nations to give Israel the land He promised them.  After many of them were defeated then God gave them the land and it was parceled out according to tribe.

Judges 6:10

And I said unto you, I am the LORD your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice.

God gave them strict orders not to fear the Amorites because if they obeyed God by believing Him, then there would not have been any left in the land to become thorns in their sides.  They chose not to obey God and to look instead at the earthly power of the pagan nations and their disobedience had now gotten them into trouble by first becoming a snare to them and afterwards being conquered by them.
