The Generation of Evil

by Dr. Ken Matto

(Mat 23:35-36 KJV) That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. {36} Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

Well come on all you big strong men,
Uncle Sam needs your help again,
Got himself in a little jam,
Way down yonder in Vietnam
And its one, two, three,
What are we fighting for….

You old timers out there, do you remember where these lyrics came from? It was sung by Country Joe and the Fish, the place was Woodstock and it was held August 15-17, 1969, exactly 34 years ago this same weekend. Woodstock was kind of the culmination of the radical 60’s (as it was called). The Vietnam war was still going strong and Woodstock was probably the zenith of protest music for the war. I was only 16 years old at the time and in 1971, I received my draft notice to report to the office in Newark, NJ. I was sent there with a number of friends of mine who had a close number to mine. Back then they used a lottery system to draw the birthdates. I think mine was about #70 and so I was called in. Well I was rejected for military service because of the fact my arms did not straighten out completely. It is said that the decade of the 60’s began peacefully until 1962 when the Beatles came on the scene and were the first ones to start with the long hair and protest music. 1962 was a pivotal year in that music had now begun a degenerative pattern from the doo-wop music into Rock and Roll, which began to retrain the minds of the young people, this one included.

Many looked on that generation as a generation of evil. If you notice our verse for today in Matthew 23, the Lord is telling the Pharisees that the blood of Abel to Zacharias is going to be charged to this generation. Well, wait a minute, how could they be liable for something that happened thousands of years before them? They are culpable in the manner that sin is passed down from generation to generation. What the Lord is talking about here is that sin is going to be judged in the life of every unbeliever. The generation of evil, began with Adam and Eve and will continue until the last day. Events like Woodstock are only products of the evil that pervade each and every generation. Take the time we live in now, just a week ago a sodomite Bishop was voted in to the Episcopalian organization. The sodomite is a vile person since God destroyed four cities because of it and there doom was swift. (Deu 29:23 KJV) And that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath: What can a sodomite teach the people from the Bible where he will not be convicted about his ongoing sin? God also has something to say about unbelievers in positions like that. (Psa 50:16-18 KJV) But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth? {17} Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee. {18} When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers.

In Psalm 50, God makes it totally plain that the unbeliever has no right to take His word since they themselves are in violation of it. The acceptance of sodomy as an alternate lifestyle in this country is going to be the destruction of it. God destroyed the cities of the Plains as we saw above. He brought down the mighty empire of Rome and He will bring down the mighty United States of America too. The IRS is holding tax exempt status over all the churches that if they speak against sodomy or other non-politically correct issues, their exempt status can be lifted. SO WHAT!!!!! Who is your God, the IRS or the Lord Jesus Christ? On many cars I see the words, “God Bless America.” I ask the question, why should He bless a country that has spit in His face many times. I am convinced that the only difference between America and Sodom and Gomorrah is that we have at least 10 righteous (saved) in this country. It is the existence of the true Christian in America that is staying the hand of God’s mighty and righteous judgment. If the Christian continues to compromise with the generation of evil, then eventually the candle will flicker and then go out. Then cometh the end.

As Christians we cannot look upon others and call them evil while we ourselves presume upon the grace of God and commit the same sins. (Rom 2:21 KJV) Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? Compromise never yields the fruit of righteousness but always yields the fruit of evil. We may look at Woodstock and say they were a protesting generation. As Christians do we protest anything or do we accept everything? There is a man in my Sunday School class that tries to convince me that there will be opportunities for salvation at the Great White Throne of Judgment. We no longer look at the judgment of God as a serious matter, instead we view it as an opportunity. When God’s judgment finally falls, it will totally consume the generation of evil from Adam and Eve to the last day. The unbeliever is under the condemnation of God and to compromise with them is to make a pact with Satan. Satan and his unbelievers in the world and are the outright enemies of Christ and Christianity. Christians are a holy nation and people set apart unto God, and we must never allow ourselves to make compromises with the world. Christ or Compromise, you cannot serve two masters! Either you serve in the generation of the righteous or you appease the generation of evil? Choose you this day whom you will serve!  (8/15/03)
