Today’s Reading - Hebrews 1 - 4

(Heb 1:1-2 KJV) God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, {2} Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

In today’s reading we come across these verses which give us a little insight into the way God communicates to His children in the last days. In verse 1, we see how God spoke to His people in the past, before we entered the last days. “Sundry times and in divers manners” carries with it the meaning of “in many parts and in many ways.” When we look at the Old Testament we see God using dreams, visions, direct speech, direct revelation, and circumstances to communicate with the people. Each of these methods were not employed on a steady basis but God used them at different intervals and according to the situation at hand. God also used His main line of communication which was through the prophets. He used them at critical times in Judah and Israel, especially at times when they were beginning to plunge into national sins and had turned away from the Lord. He would then choose a prophet who would communicate the message and they would, in turn, bring that message to the people. Normally, the prophets brought the message to the leaders of Israel, as goes the leadership, so goes the people. Normally the message was given only to the people of Israel except for a few Gentiles who heard the message such as Naaman and Nineveh, remember them?

Then in verse 2 we see that we are entering the time of the New Testament. No longer will God be using a small band of prophets to bring the message. When the Lord Jesus Christ went to the cross, He died for His Elect which would be scattered throughout the world until He returned on the last day. On the Day of Pentecost, the Lord Jesus sent the promise of the Father that the Holy Spirit would indwell all the Elect. These Christians would go throughout the entire world and bring the message of Christ to every nation. The way we hear from the Son in these last days is through the Word of God. Whenever we read the Bible we are hearing from the Son. No longer is there going to be any special revelation given to a certain group of people. This is why the Tongues movement is so dangerous, because a certain group of people think that God is still speaking to them today through the same methods He used in the old Testament. This entire movement is in violation of our daily verses. We read the Word and the Holy Spirit illumines the Word of God as we read and this is how the Lord Jesus speaks to us today. If this is not His method, then every one of us must go join a Tongues church to hear from the Lord. That would place us back under the Old Testament Prophet system where only a few are privy to the message. We have the complete Bible and no longer have to rely on parts of the Word being spoken in different places. (1 Cor 13:10 KJV) But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

Today’s Reading - Hebrews 5 - 7

(Heb 6:4-6 KJV) For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, {5} And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, {6} If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

In today’s reading we come across three of the most misused Scriptures by the “you can lose your salvation” camp. When we really look close at these verses we will see that the only group in view here are “informed unbelievers.” These may be the ones who come to church or hear a gospel broadcast and are not the Elect of God, so they continue in their sins. When an unsaved person sits in church and hears the Gospel, they are in essence partaking of the Holy Spirit, because they are fellowshipping with Christians who are indwelled with the Holy Spirit and hearing a message from a preacher who is indwelled with the Holy Spirit. So in essence they are surrounded with those the Holy Spirit has indwelled and they have heard an illumined message from a Holy Spirit indwelled Pastor. Since they have been partakers by this association, they are also tasting the Word of God because that is the basis of what the Believer teaches and lives by. Also, when they are hearing the Word of God preached, they are, in essence, hearing the language and experiencing the power of the World to come. This is because the Word of God is foreign to this sin cursed world and the pure words of God are something that is going to be an eternal occurrence in heaven, where there is no sin to corrupt or prohibit.

Now the next phrase speaks of a person falling away. Now in the Greek the phrase is “and having fallen away.” It is not a question of if, but it is a question of that they are already fallen. Those who are fallen and are not of God’s Elect, can never be renewed to repentance, which is a synonym for salvation. The only way a person can repent, is if God has already started salvation in that person’s life. It is always salvation first and then repentance. This why a non-elect person cannot be renewed unto repentance. A Christian who is out of fellowship can be renewed to repentance because the Holy Spirit is dwelling inside the believer with the power to help that believer repent. The unbeliever continues to sin and this is like causing the Lord Jesus Christ to continually go to the cross, in other words, His final sacrifice was not an end because there is no end to sin in the unbeliever’s life. In the believers life, the Lord Jesus Christ completely took away their sins forever. The unbelievers still have their continuum of sin and that is why they cannot be renewed to repentance. Now how do we know that these passages are speaking of unbelievers? Let us look at verse 9. (Heb 6:9 KJV) But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak. Verse 9 gives the key to understanding the rest of these verse. It definitely shows two distinct groups in view. It shows the perpetuity of unbelief and its inability to repent without regeneration, and in verse 9, we read that there is better things for the believer and what are they? “Things that accompany salvation.” The distinction is very clear between the two groups. So never let anyone use this as ammo for their “loss of salvation theory” on you.

Today’s Reading - Hebrews 8 - 10

(Heb 8:12 KJV) For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

In today’s reading we come across one of the most beautiful verses in all the Scriptures. It is a tenet of salvation that every Christian can truly count on. One of the reasons that Christians will never have to stand at the judgment seat of Christ on the last day is because all the sins of the Elect were taken to the cross and taken out of the way. In other words, the Christian has no sins attached to them. God is able to make forgetting our sins a part of the covenant because the substitutionary atonement of Christ, on behalf of His Elect, removed all the sins and therefore we have no more sins to give an account for. (Heb 10:16-17 KJV) This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; {17} And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. We find this great principle in other parts of the Bible also. (Isa 43:25 KJV) I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins. Jeremiah 31:34 also proclaims the same truth. If God has blotted out all our transgressions, then what can the believer possibly be judged for. One of the problems that Christians don’t understand is this. As we live our everyday lives, the sins, the Lord Jesus Christ paid for on Calvary for all those who would become saved in the future, were committed before we were saved and are presently being committed by believers. The difference though is that the unbeliever who is committing sin simultaneously with the Christian, does not have a Saviour.

The Christian, when they commit a sin, it is negated by the blood of Christ and is not held against the Believer, because it has been atoned for already. Just because we were born and spend a certain amount of years on earth, does not mean the blood of Christ is of no effect in the lives of the true Believers. Since every human being sins, when we were born, we also were born sinners in a sinful world. During the course of our life, if we are predestined unto salvation, there will come a point we become saved and all the sins that we commit, the past ones and the future ones have been paid for by Christ. If our future sins are not paid for, then we have to pay for them, which means the atonement of Christ was incomplete. I have spoken with Christians who honestly believe that when a person becomes saved, their sins are forgiven only up to the point of when they received the Lord. Of course, they also believe in the free will gospel, not realizing that both forgiveness for all sins and forgetting of all sins, is all part of the covenant of Grace. Now let me say this does not mean that because our sins are covered that we adopt the idea that anything goes. Perish the thought!

Today I have been unemployed for one full year. In the past year, I have rejected two companies as possible employers. One was for the local Cable company which I cannot work for since they supply pornography for their customers and the second one was Roto Rooter who wanted me to work weekends. As a Christian I cannot work on Sunday because I belong with God’s people in church. A truly saved person will want to walk in the ways of the Lord but if we fall into a sin, we can be assured that God will not abandon those whom His Son died for. Realize that the Atonement of Christ is full in your life as a believer and don’t subject yourself with the bondage of Satan’s lie found in many theology books and pulpits.

Today’s Reading - Hebrews 11 - 13

(Heb 12:1 KJV) Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

In today’s reading we come across this verse which teaches us that we need to hold fast our integrity as Christians. In Hebrews 11, we read a tremendous list of the brethren who were such great testimonies to the Glory and Grace of God. We read of the faithfulness of people like Noah, Abraham, Moses, Abel and Enoch. These men were great testimonies to the faithfulness of God in their lives. The writer also lists other Christians who were martyrs in the cause of Christ. God even tells us the methods that many of them went to glory with. A few days ago I spoke of a young woman named Blandina who was roasted in a chair as part of her earthly reward for being a Christian, and after many more tortures was finally released to Glory. It is these kind of witnesses of faithfulness that the Lord is teaching us about. The verse goes on to say that we are also compassed about with many similar witnesses. Since the Bible speaks to every generation, in our contemporary times we too have many witnesses of faithfulness. Who are these witnesses of faithfulness that the Bible has in mind? The witnesses that we have today are those who are being murdered for their faith and then all their goods are being plundered by the thieves. These Christians in places like China, Sudan, or in Islamic countries make the Christians in the United States as “those who are ease in Zion.” Stop here and go to this URL: http://www.scionofzion.com/cesspool.htm

What thoughts would be going through your mind if the Lord had allowed you to do the job this pastor did for 18 years? These are the kind of witnesses that we are surrounded by. Those that are remaining faithful to the Lord Jesus under the most severe circumstances are those Christians we need to emulate. Too many times we see some fraudulent dope on TV who proclaims himself to be a great Christian being persecuted by the media or some other insignificant thing, and they proclaim their martyrdom all the while they are driving a $45,000 car and living in a $500,000 estate which donations paid for. These kind of people should be starved off the radio or TV. These are not the great witnesses but those who are suffering real persecution. Too many Christians are walking around as if Christianity is a picnic out in the country. Our verse is telling us to drop every weight, which would be those things of the world which catch us up and divert us from being strong Christians. The race that is set before us is not a cake walk but it is the True Christian living in the most hostile environment in the universe, this world. If you are a true Christian and have never faced any kind of persecution in your life, then either you have been asleep since you were saved or you have heavily compromised.

The Lord is telling us that we need to look at these witnesses that surround us and evaluate why they are being persecuted and you are not. True Christianity is anathema to this world and that is why when Christians become murdered, nothing is ever said by Satan’s media. Countries like China who continue to persecute Christians will fall just like the Roman Empire did, just like the Russian Bear did, just like Romania did with all her cruelties against Christians, and also let us not forget all those countries where that “peaceful religion” is predominant. They too will face the irreversible wrath of God. So will the nation of Israel for her continued persecution of Christians. Many do not know there is a large true Christian population among the Palestinians in Israel, where Christian tour groups are forbidden to go, because Israel does not want her persecution of Christians made world wide. Now as Islam makes its way into America, heavily funded by Saudi Arabia, every Christian needs to renounce it or soon the flag of the moon god will be flying over the White House.

If this happens, all true Christians will be sentenced to the sewer pits. It can happen here. Remember Hitler started with only 12 in Munich and with much funding from IG Farben in Germany and Wall Street here in the USA, he went from unknown to Fuhrer in 10 years. Where would an obscure corporal raise that kind of money? It is the same here in the USA, Saudi billions are backing all these Islamic Learning Centers in the USA and are beginning to capture the minds of the youth. Goebbels believed that he only needed one generation of youth to take over the country, he was right. God wants His children to remain firm on the Gospel and not to accept the false teachings of religions that have been responsible for the murders of millions of His Children, because it will result in the murder of millions more. Keep that in mind the next time some liberal yells “tolerance.” Does Islam practice tolerance? Think about it!

December 15 - Sunday

Today’s Reading - Philemon; 1 Peter 1-2

(1 Pet 1:6-7 KJV) Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: {7} That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

In today’s reading we come across these verses which are an encouragement to believers that are going through rough times. Peter would be a perfect person to write about suffering since he was martyred for the Lord Jesus Christ. Trials in the faith are something that measures a Christian’s faithfulness to the Lord, and they also allow us to evaluate our spiritual level. If we are unable to withstand any of the faith tests that God sends us, then we need to do some serious introspection so we may discover why we cave in so fast when we are tried. Our faith is going to be tried heavily on this earth and as God told Paul that “His grace is sufficient for him,” we need to realize that God’s grace can easily under gird us through the tough times and as the Grace of God is a continuum in the life of every true believer, obedience is also a continuum, if we do not allow the flesh to get in the middle of it. True rejoicing for the Christian can happen when we remain obedient through the fires of trials. When we come through these trials and we look back and see that during those rough times we did not forsake the way of the Lord, it brings a great joy. It is persistence in tough times that bring honor and glory to the Lord, for it shows the world that He is real and He is able to sustain us through those valleys, while not necessarily delivering us from the trial.

When we look back at some of the martyrs of the Faith, we will see that they were faithful unto death. Their martyrdoms brought honor unto the Lord although these brethren were not delivered from those fiery trials. Verse 4 in 1 Peter gives us the reason that a Christian is hopeful, even during the worst of times is the incorruptible inheritance a believer has reserved for them in Heaven. We don’t hear too much about Heaven preached any more and that is because much of Christianity is now focused on the here and now. This is because the heavenly truths of the Gospel have been weighed down with earthly sciences such as Psychology or Sociology et al. This results in making the Gospel another “emotional healer” instead of the eternal nature that it has. Too much feel good attributes are attached to the Gospel and this is why when something goes wrong, we wonder why we fall so easy. It is because we are being programmed to believe that if we are Christians, we should not have these problems. Too many churches are painting a Pollyanna picture of Christianity to include the surrounding religions which tend to neutralize the strength of Christianity. True Christians are separatists which is taught strongly in the Bible. Separatism in belief while walking among the unbelievers. We have to deal with unbelievers but we do not have to become like unbelievers. So when we are tried, we can face it with the power of God in our lives instead of a neutralized religion. We must withstand the temptation, with all our spiritual strength, to try and homogenize the pure truths of Heaven and the sin-tainted beliefs of earth. I don’t think it is possible to mix Liquid Plumber and Coffee and not be affected. Christian strength comes from the purity of Belief in God found in the Scriptures. This is what makes us different from the world and religion.

December 16 - Monday

Today’s Reading - 1 Peter 3 - 5

(1 Pet 3:19-20 KJV) By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; {20} Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

In today’s reading we come across some of those verses that have been very misunderstood and really used in outrageous ways. I have heard these verses misused for over 20 years by those who insist that after Christ died, He went to the spirits in prison, those of the fallen angels and unbelievers and preached to them. However, this is far from Biblical truth. When the Lord Jesus died on the cross, he committed His spirit unto His Father and His body went into the grave. There are no contradicting Scriptures which teach that anything else happened. If there were conscious souls in Hell at that time, there would be no purpose in bringing them the Gospel, since they are under condemnation and could never be saved. One thing we must realize that God never does anything which lacks purpose. The key to understanding this passage is found in verse 20. There we read about Noah who is called “preacher of righteousness.” (2 Peter 2:5) While Noah was preparing the ark, he was also preaching about the coming judgment. This is why he is called “a preacher.” There is one great principle found in verse 20 and I have it pasted in my Bible when I clipped it out of something many years ago, “Noah was faithful to God’s message even though there were no results.”

This is something that we must keep in mind. Many of us want to see instant results when we witness to someone. This is not always the case. Sometimes it does happen but very rarely. We are to remain faithful and vigilant even if there is no visible fruit. Now what does it mean that Christ preached to the spirits in prison? Jesus did not walk the earth at that time, so how could He have preached to the spirits in prison? The answer is simple. The Spirit of Christ was in Noah! (Rom 8:9 KJV) But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Remember that Noah found Grace in the eyes of the Lord? Grace in the life of a person is what? Salvation! Noah was a saved individual who preached the word of Christ to his generation. So then what is the prison that is in view? (Isa 14:17 KJV) That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners? In Isaiah 14, we read about Satan, that he would not open the house of his prisoners.

What dos this translate into? It means that Noah was preaching to all the unbelievers for the duration of the building of the ark. Those in spiritual prison are any that are unsaved. When a person becomes saved, they become free. (Rom 6:22 KJV) But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. So the prisoners that Christ was preaching to were all the unbelievers at the time of Noah, through Him indwelling Noah with the Holy Spirit. They were not in any special place but were all walking around the earth. How does this apply to us today? Well, it is the same principle, because all the unbelievers are still in spiritual prison and the only way a person becomes free from that prison is by receiving a full “Heavenly Pardon.” Once this takes place, they are transferred from the kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of God. (Col 1:13 KJV) Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: When we look at these Scriptures, we see how much deeper they are than just a “homily in hell.” These verses speak of the beauty of salvation which we can all thank God for this day. For we were once a prisoner but now we are set at liberty.

December 17 - Tuesday

Today’s Reading - 2 Peter 1 - 3

(2 Pet 3:12 KJV) Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

In today’s reading we come across this verse which teaches us the true believer should be in a state of anticipation of the Lord’s return. The word I want to focus in on is the word “hasting.” It is one of those words which is defined by its context. This word is used in other places in the New Testament with the meaning of “hurrying or hasten.” However, in the Peter passage, it is not speaking of hurrying the Day of God because the Bible tells us that the day of Christ’s return is already set. (Acts 17:31 KJV) Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. The way “hasting” is to be understood in this passage, is that we, as believers, are “earnestly awaiting” the day of Christ’s return with great anticipation. We do not desire the day of the Lord’s return as a vengeance against unbelievers but we desire to see the redemption of our souls and the release from this world of sin and temptation. (Rom 8:22 KJV) For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

Basically, the redeemed of earth just want to go to their heavenly home. As followers of Jesus Christ, when we see a new day beginning, we should anticipate that maybe today will be that day. The word “hasting” is earnestly seeking, like a person who is waiting for someone to pick them up and they keep going to the front door and opening it to look out. Now because a person keeps going to the front door, does that mean that person will arrive sooner? They cannot hasten a person’s arrival any more than we can do some kinds of work to hasten the Lord’s return. All things are set up. We are just awaiting the Lord’s return with great eagerness because we look forward to the day when we will be home in glory. This world is just a camp ground until we get the heavenly call. However, the fact that we cannot hasten the Lord’s return does not mean that we are to sit idle and wait on a mountain top. We need to be busy in the Lord’s work, and even at our chosen vocations. We work now but in that day we will enter eternal rest in the Kingdom of God. We will be serving God in His Temple but that is a mystery as to what we will be doing. Until that time when we are safely on that other shore, we must continue our trek as pilgrims in a foreign land, earnestly waiting for the day when we hear that call from heaven. We joyously wait for the Lord’s return and that is why we give what we can to the personal ministries the Lord has given us. When the last one becomes saved, and we don’t know when, then we can sing with the great heavenly chorus, “Oh Happy Day.”

December 18 - Wednesday

Today’s Reading - 1 Timothy 1 - 3

(1 Tim 3:4 KJV) One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

In today’s reading we come across this section of Scripture which deals with the qualifications of a man for the ministry. This section teaches that the general characteristics of a man must be good and even unbelievers should speak well of him. These traits are desired and are obtainable by anyone who is walking according to the spirit. Now we come to the above verse and here is where the rubber meets the road. Many men are in the ministry who have sacrificed their families for the ministry. What I mean by that is that instead of their families being part of their ministry, they have sequestered and ignored them to do ministry. The idea that we are to neglect family responsibilities for the ministry is not found anywhere in Scripture. In fact, we have just the opposite in Scripture. Remember David, who had sons that were disobedient such as Absalom, and as a result caused much problems for David. Children that grow up without parental involvement are only going to become adults who are trouble makers. God never gave anyone a family for them to be ignored by the father. The family is the primary ministry of every parent. When the family is properly ministered unto, then the Bible says that if a man can rule his own house, then he shows promise that he is fit for ruling the church of God. Many Christian children, who have been abandoned by the very man who lives in their house, grow up with the idea that God is also capable of abandoning them. Normally, many children look at their father and make comparisons to the Heavenly Father.

If the earthly father seems to care more about the strangers in the congregation than he does his own family, the children will grow up with the mindset that God can do it too, so these same children begin to adapt the survivalist mindset and start going the way of the world. After all, Christianity has let them down so they now believe it is up to them to make their own way in this world, since they cannot count on others. This is why it is very dangerous for a fragmented man to try and pastor a church, for he will do the same thing to the church he did to his family. We see in the world of business how many men have neglected their families for the company and then wind up bailing their children out of jail. If a man wants to take on the responsibility of pastoring a church, the search committee should also interview his children, individually. After all, what church wants to take on a neglecting pastor and disobedient children. That leviathan will rear its ugly head sooner or later, most likely sooner. If a father cannot rule his own house well, then he should not even consider the pastorate. Based upon these Scriptures, if a man is not ruling his house well, then it is unlikely that God would place the call of the ministry on this man. He may be trying to get into the ministry to try and avoid his family problems, in hopes a sterile environment might help. The problem is if you do have a sterile environment and take a clod of dirt and put it in that environment, then the environment is no longer sterile. In this case, the man is calling himself into the ministry. It is better to give up the ministry and repair your family, than drive them farther apart and think you are in the middle of God’s will.

December 19 - Thursday

Today’s Reading - 1 Timothy 4 - 6

(1 Tim 4:1 KJV) Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

In today’s reading we come across this section of Scripture which teaches us that there is going to descend upon Christianity some type of great apostasy. This apostasy could be of one type of teaching or it could be speaking of the sum total of all the different heresies that are attacking Christianity. Many conclude that this verse is speaking directly to the church but the truth is that individual Christians make up the church. If a Christian adapts to any type of false teaching, then they will bring it into the assembly and it can be accepted. The word “expressly” in the above verse carries with it the meaning of “specifically.” The Holy Spirit is pointing out to all believers that there is going to come a time in history when apostasy will reign in many churches. The apostasy will not be ruling in every church because the Lord Jesus Christ had promised that He would never leave us nor forsake us, and the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth. He will not only guide us into truth of the Scriptures but he will also guide us into the knowledge of what is untrue, so we do not get caught up in any type of false teaching. Based upon the words used, I believe the Holy Spirit is pointing to a specific time within the period of the last days which began at Pentecost.

In this discourse on false teachings we see two of the false teachings which have been around for about one thousand years. Forbidding to marry and the prohibition of eating meat on Friday, both of which are held by the Roman Catholic Institution. The key to this passage of Scripture is found in our verse above. “Some shall depart from the faith,” is the phrase which is key because we see many doctrines which are being held to today which are a departure from the faith. “Loss of salvation, free will, signs and wonders, tongues, Dominion Theology, Inter-faith, water baptism for salvation, dead church teaching and depart out are just some of the teachings which have permeated Christianity in these final days. It is strange that some Christians have accepted these teachings. This means that it is possible to “depart from the faith” and still be a Christian. This is breathtaking to think about because this means that we will not necessarily see a great exodus from the churches or from the Christian ranks.

It seems that in these last days it will be possible to depart from the faith while remaining in your church. We must realize that those who are unbelievers will not depart from the faith, since they were never in the faith. To depart from something, you must be part of something. We know unbelievers will go after the doctrines of demons with no problem. We must keep in mind that Satan’s attack against the end time church is going to be deception, which means that doctrines of devils will not always be radical but will have enough truth to make it adaptable to Christian doctrine. The nine teachings that I mentioned above, all contain enough truth to make them palatable. However, if we compare those nine teachings to Scripture, they will not stand but when we see how these teachings are explained, with isolated and unrelated passages, they can be accepted by those who do not make the serious comparisons. These same people can easily be the ones to propagate false teachings and to be the catalyst for their growth. False teachings need distribution, not necessarily a pulpit. Let us be on our to spiritual toes the next time we are approached with a spurious doctrine which cannot be backed up by true biblical exegesis.

December 20 - Friday

Today’s Reading - Titus 1 - 3

(Titus 3:9 KJV) But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

In today’s reading we come across this verse which is packed full of good advice for the believer. Titus was speaking to Christians that they should do what they can to avoid foolish questions. The word “foolish” in the Greek is the word “moros” which means “foolish, stupid, or dull.” It is interesting the cognate of this word is “moria.” We get the word “moron” from “moria” and “moros.” Basically, the Lord is warning us not to spend precious time on morons who just love to debate and argue, and don’t give a hoot about the truth. Is the word moron too strong? Answer this next question - You are walking down a street and someone who knows you are a Christian says to you, “Can God make a rock so heavy He can’t lift it” or “How many angels can dance on the head of the pin?” I guess when we hear questions like this, we can understand why God uses the word for moron without any reservation. Let me be blunt, don’t waste your time with morons! How can we tell if a person is a moron? If they continue to badger you with questions and useless analogies. I know it is hard but we must keep ourselves civil when these type of people present all their mind. (Psa 39:1 KJV) I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me. If people know that they can get you angry or they can derail you almost to the point of losing your testimony, then you need to just walk away from them. These people are a testing program for us so we may see where we are on the obedience scale.

Now Paul was telling Titus to avoid these kind of people because of their impetuous passion for troublemaking. This also means that you do not have to answer every e-mail that comes your way. You can easily make a quick discernment if the person sending you the e-mail is legitimately seeking an answer or if they are setting you up. There are many people out there in the world who read a magazine or a book which makes some kind of negative comment about Christianity and then these people will seek out the first Christian they can find to get them to try and refute it. When someone does that, then the easiest thing to do is to tell them what Christ has done in your life and how He changed you. People cannot refute a living testimony standing right in front of them. To avoid all these endless stories and nonsensical attacks on Christianity can be done by simply turning the conversation back on the Lord Jesus Christ. You can truncate a silly conversation very easily by just pointing to the detractor and ask, with pointed finger, “Where will you be standing on Judgment Day?” Then walk away because that night they will think about it. There is a little interval between the time they get into bed and the time they fall asleep. That type of question is not easily avoided when a person is alone with their thoughts, because there is no audience. Let us avoid the foolish questions or turn them around to the glory of God.
