Affected Teaching
Here Paul is basically saying that we were saved and we need to live within the confines of the life from God. This means, that sinful actions and lifestyle are not part of that new life. (Eph 4:24 KJV) And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Paul told the Ephesians the same thing that they were not to only put off the old man but they were to put on the new man. The new man is the Christian life and it is being renewed on a constant basis. (2 Cor 4:16 KJV) For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. In 2 Cor. 4:16, we are told that the inward man, that is, our new life, is being renewed daily. In Colossians 3:10 we are told that this renewal is made in knowledge and that knowledge begins with the fact of what we were before salvation but then we are given knowledge concerning the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ plus we are increasing our knowledge by practical Christianity and the understanding of the Scriptures which the Holy Spirit gives us. Further that knowledge is according to the image of Christ in man which was created in man by Christ through salvation. Now the reason why we are to live in the new man and reject the ways of the old man is because we are made in the image of Christ or according to Christ. If you notice, whenever the Bible speaks of the new man, it calls it the “new man.” The word “him” in Colossians 3:10 is a masculine personal pronoun. Therefore words like “it and its” are incorrect. They would be correct if the word was “neuter” but it is not. Some of the versions even refer to God as “the one” which is a new age term. The words in the Greek for “him” and “one” are totally different. If you look at the CEV, ERV, and NCV, you will notice a very subtle theme. They include a statement that “you are becoming more and more like him.” The NCV even states that “you are becoming like the One who made you.” These statements are prevalent in the New Age movement as they seek to progress toward Godhood. Their desire is be more like God until they finally reach their goal. These statements are not in the Greek text, they were added.
