Is Family Radio the Only Truth?

One of the main teachings of Depart Out is that there are high places and false teachings in every ministry but Family Radio. Harold Camping continues to teach that God is blessing Family Radio by allowing it to expand world wide. He continues to say concerning truth bearing ministries in these last days, “Family Radio and ministries like it.” I am still waiting to hear the names of the “like it” ministries. No one will ever doubt that Family Radio is not a large ministry. In fact, I believe their School of the Bible has about 20,000 students. FR can be heard on the Internet, AM & FM Radio stations, Translators, Satellators ( I don’t know how to spell it), TV, and Sky Angel giving it worldwide exposure. In the early 1990’s when the Berlin Wall came down and the Soviet Union disbanded, FR went in with tract trips. One fantastic thing they did was offer a Bible to anyone who wanted one. I believe they distributed about 600,000 Bibles in the CIS. Back before they bastardized the Does God Love You Tract, I believe multi-millions of them went out all over the world. This is why so many Christians, myself included, hooked themselves on to Family Radio with support and volunteerism. Back then, if you spoke against Family Radio, you were speaking against me.

For about 4 years I was a librarian at the Zarephath Bible Institute in Zarephath, NJ. This was an Arminian school. I worked 500 feet from WAWZ and while I worked in the library I played WFME on the radio. Here I was, a pro-Camping Christian in the midst of an Arminian camp. I had a good relationship with the folks there and I even spoke at their Camp Meeting and Sunday nights in the chapel.

When the time of 1994 came around, I too was looking forward to see if the Lord would return. He did not and life went on. The 1994 scenario didn’t bother me and because the Lord did not return, I did not think that was a reason to shun Family Radio. I had supposed that Harold honestly believed the Lord would return and since He didn’t, FR would go on as before, which it did for a while and then came the Latter Rain Teachings and the Depart Out Teachings which changed the reputation of Family Radio.

Accompanying these two teachings is the arrogant belief that Family Radio is the only ministry proclaiming truth in these final days. This is a very cultic belief. It is saying that every other radio, TV, Internet ministry, church, or organization are all apostate and teaching false doctrine. This means that God’s blessing is only upon Family Radio and all the rest are under God’s judgment. For if God is not blessing, then He is cursing. Being cursed of God means you are under the wrath of God. This exclusivity teaching is absolutely erroneous. The Bible does not teach that God is going to use one man in the last days to bring truth:

------------------------------------------------------------

(Psa 68:11 KJV) The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it.

The word “great” is the Hebrew word “rav” which means “many or abundant.” This means there is a going to be many Christians who are going to publish this word. Let’s look at “published it.” These words mean ”ones bearing good news.” Every Christian worldwide who brings the gospel will be bearing good news. It is not a small group who will be doing this. It may be hundred of thousands of small groups doing it.

-------------------------------------------------------------

(Mark 9:38-40 KJV) And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us. {39} But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. {40} For he that is not against us is on our part.

Jesus is saying that the gospel will be entrusted not only to the disciples, but there will be others who are going to become saved and will send forth the gospel. If the world is to be evangelized, the gospel must be carried to other parts of the world by many more believers than just a handful.

------------------------------------------------------------

(Isa 2:3 KJV) And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

The word “many” is the word “rabbim” which has a root of “rav.” That word meant a great or abundant amount. So we see that this verse, being a prophecy of the gospel of Grace, is speaking about a great amount of believers who are going to learn the Scriptures and then take the word to the world, “from Jerusalem.”

-------------------------------------------------------------

(John 10:16 KJV) And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

Here is a verse stating directly that Christ is going to have other sheep who will not be of the fold of national Israel. He is speaking of the future Christians who will go out, evangelize, and see “other sheep” in their own generation become saved and added to the single fold under the Lord Jesus Christ.

Summary
We have looked at four verses which teach that the Gospel is going to go forth from a large number of believers throughout the world. The belief that God is giving one man all the truth and one organization, sole evangelism authority is not only cultic but ridiculous. It is pure spiritual pride. Family Radio is an electronic ministry and this is what the Latter Rain teaching is built on, that God is done with the churches and only the electronic media is now going to be used. This is nonsense. The electronic media is going to part of the outreach in the last days but “the” only mode of outreach. According to Wycliffe Bible Translators, 60% of the world’s population have never used a telephone. This means that 3.6 billion people have never used a phone. What is the chances that these people have access to a short-wave radio, a computer, a downlink for Sky Angel, etc. The chances are slim to none. God still uses His most tried and proven method, that is, word of mouth. There is a great missionary shift in the last days in that many organizations are using nationals to get the Gospel to closed countries. Nationals can get where we can’t plus their training time is shortened, and no big expenses moving families from the USA to wherever.

Another ridiculous belief that Camping likes to brag on is the fact that FR is big. He equates a large ministry to being blessed of the Lord. If that is the case, then God is blessing the Islamic religion because it is the fastest growing religion in the world. Roman Catholicism is worldwide, are they blessed of the Lord? The New Age is worldwide, are they blessed of the Lord? The answer is no. Ministry size is never a determining factor for the substance and source of a ministry. The web site that you are on right now draws between 17-20,000 page views every month. This is only one small website in a sea of thousands. We are bigger than some but smaller than many, yet God uses it to His glory. We just post the articles and God sends whom He will.

Camping also states that Free Will is a high place and needs to be avoided. He calls them false gospels and high places in a church and say that Christians should come out of them. Yet, on Family Radio they play Free Will programs: Back to the Bible, Dr. Cook, Mary Whelchel, James Boice (he used false Bible versions like NIV), Dr. Jack Manzella (what does physical healing have to do with the gospel?). The music contains women singers and the word “church” is in many hymns. “The Church’s One Foundation,” should be changed to “The Fellowship’s One Foundation.” When Free Will is taught in church it is anathema. When it is played on Family Radio, it is not. What is the difference? None! Hypocritical isn’t it?

From what we have seen, Family Radio cannot be viewed as the only truth bearer nor can it be viewed as being free of High Places, according to the definition of Harold Camping. Instead of pontificating the heresy that every church is dead, he should clean up his own house first. As we have plainly seen, Family Radio is not above the rest. And yes, it is possible to be a Christian without Family Radio. This has been proven by millions.
